Tom is only a young boy when his dad dies on their subsistence farm. "Oh, God, why did my pa die?" he cries as he fights with his emotions. Will he find life's most important answers? Will he ever see Mandy again?

I was one of Mr.Mann's students in 5th grade, I love this book!! He is such a nice man, and a great writer.
This is a fast paced novel about a young man named Tom growing up in the early American west. Tom not only has to face the physical challenges, coping to grow up without a father, but also has to face many spiritual challenges as well. This book is well written and deals with issues that are just as real today as they were in early west when Tom was growing up. It deals with how to respond when those you look up to don't act as they should. Ultimately Tom realizes that it is he who has to take responsibility for his life and it is his decision on how he should respond to Jesus.
